Western Australia police have seized cash and cannabis in two raids carried out earlier this week. The raids took place on Tuesday the 22nd in homes in Belmont and Ballajura, near Perth.

Inside the Belmont home, Cannington detectives located roughly 75 cannabis plants. The plants were growing in a sophisticated hydroponics setup inside three rooms of the home. The home is located close to Belmont City College on Fisher street.

According to Acting Police Commissioner Gary Dreigbergs, the grow house setup was “very sophisticated”.

They have got a significant amount of cannabis seized and a significant amount of cash. It’s a concerning issue that grow houses are popping up again in our suburbs.

Inside the Ballajura home, Cannington detectives located $60,000 in fifty-dollar notes. Two men were also arrested at the scene, and one man is said to be a Vietnamese national. Police expect to charge both men in connection with the cannabis operation but have not announced the charges. A stolen car was also discovered at one of the homes raided on Tuesday and has since been recovered.

Police believe the Belmont and Ballajura properties raided on Tuesday were related to two other grow houses raided in late May. The two grow houses are located side-by-side in Langford and contained over 153 cannabis plants and 12.9 kilograms of dried cannabis. That cannabis is worth over $258,000.

According to police, these raids have put a significant dent in WA’s local cannabis supply. The cannabis seized during the raids will be destroyed, and Cannington police intend to continue their investigation into further local grow homes.
